THE BAN 2025

We are at extreme risk of wildfire due to the hot dry conditions and no rain in sight. We need to stop wildfires before they start. Travel and activities in the woods are restricted and there is a ban on open fires across the entire province. The fine for violating the restrictions is $25,000.
If you have questions, please contact your local Department of Natural Resources office: https://novascotia.ca/natr/staffdir/offices.asp

All events have been cancelled for August with CHPTA - Parks and Trails. Provincial ban for all our trails until Oct or we get sufficient rain, hopefully not all at once (we do not need floods either).

We are not cancelling the joint fundraiser CHRHS 'the Farm' and CHPTA The Park and Trails - "Walk in the Park 2025" just yet. It has been postponed. Please stay tuned.

The Treasured Wetlands and the BioBiltz are definitely off the schedule.
Why? They are in a wetland! you ask? Actually getting this question a lot.
The Salt Marsh Trail runs for several kilometres across the water. However, the Trail passes thru the woodlands from both the West Lawrencetown Road and the Bissett Road. The wetlands vegetation above the waterline can burn. Peat can burn even below the surface. Burn it does, for a very long time before breaking out above.

Fishermen are not permitted to cross thru the woods to get to a lake, stream or river, we can not travel along the wooded portions of the trail to reach the wetlands.

FYI - in very dry conditions - wetlands can burn. Wind blows the fire right across the vegetation rooted in the water, but topping out above.

We already had party goers trashing the area 1km in from Bissett Rd. The three fire pits should have been easily spotted by homes across the waters.
If there is a repeat at any time - please call 911 if you see smoke along the SMT or in the Park.

$25,000 each person violating the Ban - plus tax.

Thank you

Eliz Holly Woodill
